A sloppy India got their act together in the nick of time to escape with a dramatic tie against a spirited England in a nerve-wracking World Cup league match here today. The Indians rode on Sachin Tendulkar's (120) record fifth World Cup century to pile up 338 all out but a heroic batting display by England captain Andrew Strauss (158) and some toothless bowling allowed England to leave the match tied at a jam-packed Chinnaswamy Stadium.

It’s been a trip to hell & back for Indians rescued from Libya

For several days, Mubin Qureshi lived in fear of death with bands of armed looters roaming on the streets of Tripoli, the capital of Libya. He along with other immigrants was shut inside a camp by his employer. Even while he headed to board the Air India flight, which last night brought the first group of evacuated Indians, Libyan officials at the airport relieved him of 1,000 Libyan Dinar (about Rs 37,000).

Malaysia arrests 109 Hindu group activists
Kuala Lumpur, February 27
The Malaysian police today arrested 109 members of a group linked to a banned Hindu rights outfit of ethnic Indians for participating in an “illegal” rally in protest against the introduction of a controversial book in the senior school curriculum. Later, 101 of them were released.

Hollywood polished up its golden boy statue, the Oscar, for its glittery awards ceremony on Sunday (early Monday morning in India) with “The King's Speech” and “Social Network” leading the field for the world’s top movie honours. The presentation will feature two youthful co-hosts, actors James Franco, 32, and Anne Hathaway, 28, marking the first time a man and woman have presided over the Oscars.

India fails to check marriages of minor girls
Houses eighth highest population of married adolescent girls in Asia, Africa: UNICEF report
New Delhi, February 27
India is among the 10 countries of Asia and sub-Saharan Africa that house the highest number of girls who marry before the legal age of 18 years. The UNICEF State of the World Children Report 2011 launched in the Capital recently reveals that India is home to 20 per cent of the world’s adolescents and half of the adolescents living in Asia.
