Pragya held for Sunil Joshi’s murder

Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, a key accused in the Malegaon blast case, has been arrested in connection with the murder of RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi.Joshi, a suspect in the Samjhauta Express blast case, was shot dead at Dewas in December 2007. The Madhya Pradesh Police arrested the sadhvi on Friday from the JJ Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

The police is expected to take her for interrogation to Madhya Pradesh tonight or tomorrow, sources said.

The visiting police team was given permission by the special court, set up under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, following which the sadhvi was handed over to it.

“The MP Police moved an application in the special MCOCA court here, and after taking the court’s permission they placed Sadhvi under arrest in the Sunil Joshi murder case,” Rohini Salian, special public prosecutor, said.

“It is just a formal arrest. She would be taken to MP after they make transportation arrangements,” said Pragya's lawyer Ganesh Sovani.

Sixty-eight persons were killed when bombs went off in two coaches of Samjhauta Express, running between Delhi and Lahore, around midnight on February 18, 2007 at Diwana near Panipat,evacuation is not accelerated, thousands of Indians would be trapped. She said “I am aware of the grim situation in which Indians are living there and the panic among them. I would request the government to substantially increase the number of planes and frequency of flights to places like Benghazi, Sabha, Sirte, Al Bayda and Tripoli where Indians are residing and evacuate all the families within a week.”

When a private company can get a plane and permission to evacuate the families 80 km north of Delhi.

Pragya, an alleged member of right-wing Hindu group Abhinav Bharat, has already moved the Supreme Court challenging her prosecution under the MCOCA in the Malegaon blast case.

The Bombay High Court had earlier reversed special court’s order quashing application of MCOCA against her in the blast case, following which she filed appeal in the apex court. Six persons were killed and many were injured in the bomb blast in the communally sensitive town of Malegaon, in Nashik district, on September 29, 2008.
