After nine days in captivity, Maoists today released Malkangiri Collector RV Krishna finally bringing to an end the tense hostage crisis in Orissa. Chitrakonda Tehsildar D Gopalakrishna said Krishna was released by Maoists today evening and was on his way to his home in Malkangiri, about 90 km from where Krishna was freed.

Hooda govt open to Commission of Inquiry

Even as investigation into the Chhillar massacre of November 1984 began with the Gurgaon Divisional Commissioner, TK Sharma, visiting the site in Rewari today, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda told The Tribune that records hold that compensation was paid to the victims.

Lok Sabha passes JPC motion
New Delhi, February 24
The Lok Sabha today unanimously passed the motion to constitute a 30-member Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the 2G scam by a voice vote after a four-hour debate. The motion will now go to the Rajya Sabha for concurrence and choosing 10 other members of the Committee.

Sotheby’s to auction Sobha Singh’s painting
Dharamsala, February 24
Maharaja Ranjit SinghA portrait of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh ruler of Punjab, by Sobha Singh would be auctioned at Sotheby’s in New York on March 24. The portrait is being auctioned at the behest of a private art collector. It has been priced at $3-4 lakh (about Rs 2 crore in Indian rupee).

The base price of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s portrait kept at $3-4 lakh. The identity of the owner is not known
