Maharashtra launched a massive crackdown on oil adulteration mafia across Maharashtra today raiding 200 places and arresting around 180 persons after an official was burnt alive while the Centre unveiled steps to reduce scope for diversion of subsidised kerosene.

15 lakh state employees go on strike
Mumbai, January 27
Over 15 lakh Maharashtra government employees went on strike today in protest against the gruesome killing of Nashik Additional Collector Yashwant Sonawane, who was set on fire by members of the oil mafia on Tuesday.

Lavasa seeks time for negotiated settlement
New Delhi, January 27
Having been given a lifeline by the Environment Ministry, Lavasa Corporation today sought six weeks time to arrive at a negotiated settlement on its ambitious hill city project in Pune. “Lavasa Corporation has asked for an extension of six weeks as Lavasa has submitted relevant documents requested by the MoEF in their final order dated January 17, 2011,”the company said in a statement here.

SC demands black money details again

The Supreme Court today repeatedly questioned the government on the steps taken to find out the source of the huge black money generated and stashed in secret bank accounts abroad in the light of the PIL petitioners’ assertion that such wealth could have been amassed through arms deals, drug trafficking, smuggling and other nefarious activities.

Revive 400-year-old dried-up ber trees in Golden Temple Complex

The historic and sacred ‘ber’ trees in the Golden Temple complex have returned to life and are bearing fruit heavily this year after a gap of two decades, thanks to the efforts of horticulture experts from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), here, who have given a new lease of life to these trees that had almost dried up.
