Pranab rules out revealing names of beneficiaries

New Delhi, January 25
The government has detected mispricing of Rs 33,784 crore in last 18 months even as the national exchequer managed to mop up a sum of Rs 34,601 crore in its efforts to curb and detect black money in the country, said Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee here today.

The Additional District Collector of Malegaon, Yashwant Sonawane, was burnt alive today after he chanced upon kerosene and other fuel being siphoned off tankers belonging to public sector oil companies, the police said here today.

Vital to uphold dignity of House: President
New Delhi, January 25
With the washout of the winter session of Parliament still fresh in people’s mind, President Pratibha Patil today reminded both the government and the Opposition of their responsibility to maintain the decorum and dignity of the House. She also expressed concern over the rising prices, particularly of food articles, and strongly condemned incidents of ragging in education institutions, describing it as violence which should not be tolerated.

New Delhi, January 25
Eminent art administrator, Dr Kapila Vatsyayan, the WIPRO chairman Azim Premji, former Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai and the vice chairman of the Planning Commission, Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia were, among others, conferred the Padma Vibhushan on the eve of the Republic Day today. Former National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra, Vijay Kelkar and late L.C. Jain were also conferred the highest Padma award.
