High drama prevailed at Jammu airport today when senior BJP leaders Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Ananth Kumar were first detained and then arrested after their arrival from Delhi, triggering vehement protests. The leaders, who were here to bolster the BJP’s ambitious ‘Ekta Yatra’, were later deported to Madhopur in neighbouring Punjab.

Advani upset, lodges protest with PM
New Delhi, January 24
Unhappy over the treatment meted out to party colleagues Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley at Jammu airport, senior BJP leader L K Advani today talked to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to lodge a protest over the developments which had “never happened” earlier. “I talked to the Prime Minister to register protest over the way the authorities prevented Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, both Leaders of Opposition in two Houses of Parliament, from entering Jammu and threatened to deport them back to Delhi,” said Advani.

Tells SC he has an ‘impeccable’ service record 
New Delhi, January 24
Describing himself as a “victim of a political battle,” Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) PJ Thomas today informed the Supreme Court that there was no substance in the demand for his removal in the light of his alleged involvement in the palm oil import and 2G scams.
In an affidavit filed in the SC in response to the court notice on PILs demanding his removal, Thomas said his name figured in the palm oil case, registered by the LDF government in Kerala in 2000 for alleged irregularities in imports made in 1991-92, just because he happened to be the Food Secretary at the time when the oil was bought from a Singapore company.

Pt Bhimsen Joshi Is No More 
New Delhi, January 24
Legendary vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi passed away after a prolonged illness at a Pune hospitalRenowned Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi died in Pune this morning after a protracted illness. He would have turned 88 on February 4. Joshi is survived by three sons and a daughter.
