New Delhi, January 11
A worried Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today held a meeting with senior ministers and bureaucrats to find ways to tame food inflation. The high-level meeting, however, ended inconclusively. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Economic Adviser to the Finance Ministry Kaushik Basu attended the two-hour meeting at the Prime Minister’s 7, Race Course Road residence.

Says Andhra Pradesh Govt at his mercy, flays PM
New Delhi, January 11
The Congress watched with bated breath as ex-Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy demonstrated his political clout to his former party with an impressive crowd of supporters cheering him at Jantar Mantar as he sat on a day-long fast demanding scrapping of the Krishna Water Tribunal award, terming it as anti-Andhra farmers.

Punjab decides to call Mullanpur New Chandigarh
n State’s logic: Township conceived as eco-friendly, so new name apt n Critics lament: Move to help colonisers
Chandigarh, January 11
To cash in on Chandigarh's stature of being the first planned city of the country, the Punjab Government has renamed its Mullanpur township on the city’s periphery, adjoining the PGI, as “New Chandigarh”. The new name, “hijacked” from an earlier proposal by late Chief Minister Beant Singh, is likely to benefit all those who have a high stake in the area, be it politicians, bureaucrats or private builders.
