If Ruskin Bond hadn’t rented a small room on the roof at Dehradun, perhaps he wouldn’t be giving us his debut The Room On the Roof. The semi-autobiography God of Small Things captures Arundhati Roy’s childhood experiences in

IIT-Delhi. Jhumpa Lahiri’s debut novel The Namesake spans over 30 years of the life of
Kolkata-born emigrants to the US, where their children grow up experiencing constant generational and cultural gap
