Ganguly finds no takers in IPL 4

Bangalore, January 9
The IPL auction concluded here today with a few surprises and jackpots for some. Big names like Sourav Ganguly and Chris Gayle failed to attract any buyers for the second day running and will be out of the IPL. Little-known Australian Daniel Christian was the biggest gainer of the second day with Deccan Chargers buying him out for Rs 4.14 crores.

Some like Murali Karthik and Mohd Kaif were lucky enough to make it in the second and third rounds. In fact, Kaif made it in the nick of time becoming the last player of the day to be bought at the auction for Rs 60 lakh. The fourth season of the IPL is slated to kick-off six days after the World Cup in April this year.

Veteran Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya also failed to find a buyer today joining a high-profile list of unsold players which included among others West Indies batting great Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, Mark Boucher and Graeme Swann. Ganguly's name, in fact, did not even come up in the second round of bidding, the players for which were handpicked by the franchises, prompting angry fans to stage protests against his former team Kolkata Knight Riders in the Bengal capital. — TNS
