Fourth FIR lodged in CWG scam
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, January 6
The CBI has lodged its fourth FIR in connection with the alleged financial irregularities committed by the Commonwealth Games’s Organising Committee and the latest criminal case concerns the overlays at different CWG venues in which the OC officials are suspected to have defrauded the exchequer of tens of crores of rupees in league with private firms.

A CBI spokesperson said today that the OC’s Director General VK Verma, who had been questioned earlier, is the only suspect they had named in the FIR but more officials, who are yet to be identified, were involved in the shady deal.

Neither OC’s Chairman Suresh Kalmadi nor his second-in-command and OC’s Secretary General Lalit Bhanot were named as accused in the FIR but a senior official said it did not give them a clean chit either. “We have said in the FIR that other officials too are involved and it could be anybody depending upon what our probe throw up,” he said.

“It is alleged that the Director-General and others entered into a criminal conspiracy with managing directors and directors of private companies in awarding contracts for overlays for different venues of the CWG at exorbitant rates.
