CBI to probe corruption in NREGS, Centre tells SC
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, December 16
The CBI has been asked to investigate complaints of corruption in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), the Centre informed the apex court today.

Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaisingh gave the information to a three-member Bench headed by Chief Justice SH Kapadia. The Bench, which included Justices KSP Radhakrishnan and Swatanter Kumar, was hearing a PIL on corruption in various states in implementation. After hearing counsel Prashant Bhushan, the Bench sought the response from the Centre and the Orissa government as to why a CBI probe should not be ordered into diversion of funds in Orissa. At this, the ASG said the Centre had already given the probe to the CBI.
