Heavy rains damage crop in Chhattisgarh, govt assures aid
Continuous and untimely downpours in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh have damaged standing and harvested paddy crop in the region. Sacks of harvested paddy lying in open spaces have been destroyed in the district, as it experienced heavy showers. The state's opposition Congress party has demanded compensation for the farmers hit due to the untimely
rains. The district agriculture officials seemed worried about the current situation, as the damage is fairly high.

India, European Union to conclude FTA next year
India will sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union (EU) in 2011. Both the sides declared this on Friday in Brussels, the headquarters of the EU in Belgium. Describing it as a 'path breaking agreement', the President of European Commission Jose Manuel Durao Barroso said that the trade would open new links and boost trade in both the India and EU.

Frisking of Indian envoy unfortunate: US
Deputy Chief of Mission of US Donald Lu on Friday expressed regret over the pat-down search of Indian Envoy to US, Meera Shankar and said security policies in the country need to be revisited. Speaking on the sidelines of a Gay Rights' seminar at the American Centre in New Delhi, Lu said that the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour have expressed desire to look at security policies again.

Karkare told me his life under threat: Digvijay Singh
Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Saturday made a shocking revelation that former Maharashtra ATS Chief Hemant Karkare called him just hours before the Mumbai attacks saying his life was under threat. Singh made remarks similar to what former Minorities Affairs Minister A R Antulay had made over the killing of Maharashtra ATS chief. Singh claimed that Karkare was receiving threats from those were opposing Malegaon blast probe.
