Retired SC Judge to probe 2G scam
Telecom policies followed by governments since 2001 under scanner

The government has asked a retired Supreme Court judge to look into the telecom policies followed by different governments since 2001. Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said the inquiry by retired judge Shivraj Patil will be completed within four weeks.

 Within minutes of Telecommunications Minister Kapil Sibal announcing a committee headed by a retired high court judge to probe the allegations of scam in allocation of 2G spectrum by his predecessor A Raja, Opposition BJP rejected the committee outright and insisted on only a JPC.

Far away, a planet full of diamonds

An Indian scientist today announced the discovery of carbon-rich planet orbiting a distant star about 1200 light years away from the earth, a find that throws open the possibilities of existence of diamond-studded stars. Nikku Madhusudhan, a Banaras Hindu University alumnus and his colleagues at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology recently measured the first-ever planetary atmosphere that is substantially enriched in carbon.
