2G Scam: It was the Law Ministry which took eight months to offer its advice to the PMO, says the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the Prime Minister
New Delhi, November 20
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had been prompt in asking his officials to “examine” the letters received from Janata Party President Subramanium Swamy on the 2G scam but a reply was sent to Swamy after 16 months as bureaucrats in the PMO, Law Ministry and the Department of Personnel took time to agree on the response, states the affidavit filed by the PMO in the Supreme Court today.

Satisfied with affidavit on PM’s behalf: Swamy
Dehradun, November 20
Janata Party President Dr Subramanian Swamy today said that even if Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was not involved in the 2 G spectrum scam, his role was akin to “Bhishampitamaha” in the epic “Mahabharat”, who watched helplessly while “Draupadi” was being disrobed.

Lisbon, November 20
NATO endorsed a plan on Saturday to hand over the control of security in Afghanistan to the Afghan forces by the end of 2014 and the alliance’s leader said the NATO-led force would cease combat operations by then. But senior US officials cast doubt on whether the US, the dominant power in the 28-nation alliance, would end its own combat mission before 2015 because President Barack Obama has not yet set a date for this.

Srinagar’s ‘disturbed area’ tag may go
New Delhi, November 20
The government is reportedly keen on excluding Srinagar city from the list under the Disturbed Areas Act. However, questions are being raised by the Army on the long-term repercussions of such a move. If Srinagar is removed from the list of disturbed areas, it would automatically render the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) ineffective in the summer capital of the state. Sources said the Army’s stand was clear that it would not operate in areas where the AFSPA was not in operation. The government was aware of the same.
