In a massive show of strength, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today signalled he was ready to battle the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.

SC nod to removal of HPSC chief, members

Myanmar’s democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi is on the verge of being freed from house arrest, officials in the military-ruled country said today, as anticipation grew among her legions of supporters. Security was stepped up in Yangon, where Suu Kyi remained confined to her crumbling lakeside mansion, with police vehicles patrolling the city.
