Punjab cries foul over  low wheat support price 
Chief Minister says Rs 20 raise a pittance 
New Delhi, October 21
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and the farm lobby reacted sharply today to the Centre’s announcement of the Minimum Support Price for Wheat. The Centre yesterday had announced a nominal hike of Rs 20 in the MSP, fixing it at Rs 1,120 per quintal.

Day-long shootout in Srinagar leaves two Jaish ultras dead

In a day-long operation, two foreign militants of the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Maloora village on the outskirts of Srinagar city today. Two houses were also damaged in the encounter.

Can Chidambaram open Hussainiwala border? 
Ferozepur, October 21
Irked over restrictions and difficulties being faced by residents of the border areas whose landholdings are situated across the cobra fencing erected about 20 years ago, the Border Area Sangharsh Committee is slated to take up the issue with Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram tomorrow. “We are yet to get compensation in lieu of 11-ft-wide land acquired by the Centre alongside the zero line in 1947 . The fencing has also not been done as per the recommendations made by the Kapoor Committee about 20 years ago,” alleged state president of the committee Arsal Singh. He said a memorandum in connection with their grievances and demands would be submitted to the Union Home Minister at Hussainiwala tomorrow.

London’s Christie’s to auction rare books on Indian cricket

Rare books on Indian cricket are expected to fetch lakhs of rupees each when they are put up for sale next month at London’s famous Christie’s auction house. The books are all from the private library and art collection of the MCC, which hopes to raise at the equivalent of at least Rs two crores (£300,000) from the sale.

Amartya Sen lashes out at India over Myanmar policy

Nobel laureate Amartya Sen today rapped India over its Myanmar policy, saying the country “completely abdicated” its responsibility on morality after getting a “bit of power” and pleaded for global scrutiny of the November 7 general elections under the military junta. Sen, a vocal critic of the ruling military regime in Myanmar, termed the policies of India, China and Thailand with regard to Burma as “exceptionally crude and valuationally gross”.
