Rahul questions Nitish’s secular credentials
Tribune News Service

Patna, October 14
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi preferred to target only Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during his first day’s election meetings in Kosi belt of the state today. He did not even utter the names of RJD chief Lalu Prasad or LJP president Ram Vilas Paswan, the two allies who are making all efforts to grab power in Bihar.

Questioning the secular credentials of Nitish, Rahul said: “Nitish Kumar is in alliance with the BJP, but he will not let the BJP leaders like Narendra Modi campaign in Bihar. The Bihar Chief Minister is supporting the BJP ideology, which believes in dividing the country in the name of religion and community. Our fight is not against the BJP leaders, but their ideology.”

Elaborating on his party’s ideology, he said our party wants to build India for all Indians irrespective of caste, colour, region and religion.

Continuing in the same vein, he also criticised Nitish Kumar for projecting himself as the man committed to Bihar’s development and charged him with not utilising the funds provided by the Centre for different schemes.

“The Centre had doubled its contributions to Bihar compared to the previous NDA regime yet there were no roads, no power, no schools and no jobs,” Rahul said.

The state Congress leaders are banking heavily upon the charisma of Rahul and Sonia Gandhi to improve the party’s tally of 10 in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. After a long gap, the Congress is contesting all 243 seats on its own.
