Guides for spectators & citizens Tribune News Service New Delhi, October 2 “These guidelines will apply to every visitor and there will be no relaxation and no exception,” the ministry said, declaring in no uncertain terms to the spectators that they should not expect any special treatment on the basis of rank, status or cadre. Some days ago, security guards had stopped Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s car as his driver did not have accreditation. The statement asks spectators to plan their trip from home well in advance, taking into account possible traffic snarls, to reach the venue on time and go through multi-layered security. “Be prepared to stand in queue,” warned the ministry, even as the city, full of VVIPs, is keener on cornering the special ‘T-1’ car pass that allows vehicles to move on the exclusive Commonwealth Games Village lane earmarked on major roads in the National Capital. At all spots, “electronic readers” have been installed to ‘read’ the ticket and accreditation cards. In case the electronic reader fails due to a technical glitch, security personnel will do a thorough manual check of the person, the ticket and the accreditation card. With stadiums not having the kind of parking to take in thousands of cars, the ministry has told high-profile spectators that they must be ready to walk some distance At the end of the competition or opening ceremony, VVIPs will have to walk back to the designated parking lots. Use public transport, is another advice.
