RBI hikes key rates

The RBI in its first mid- quarter review of its monetary policy increased repo and reverse repo rates leaving the cash reserve ratio (CRR) unchanged as it battles to contain inflation. The central bank noted that food inflation has risen to 15.10 per cent for the week ending September 4, thus making it necessary to rein in liquidity.

Eight of 16 CJIs were corrupt: Ex-law minister

Former Union Law Minister Shanti Bhushan Thursday told the Supreme Court that at least eight of the 16 Chief Justices of India (CJIs) were “definitely corrupt”. In an affidavit filed on Thursday, senior counsel Shanti Bhushan said that six of the CJIs were “definitely honest” and he could not comment on the remaining two.

Firms deny CSE allegations on antibiotics in honey

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has made some serious allegations against leading honey manufacturers in the country. The NGO, which in the past took up powerful cola companies with its analysis of pesticide residue in soft drinks, has claimed to have found antibiotic contamination in indigenous as well as imported “natural and pure” honey. The CSE assertion that honey unfit to be sold in countries of origin is being sold in India is even more disturbing.
