Minister’s house attacked, 20 hurt in clashes

Security forces fired in the air and lobbed teargas shells after a mob attacked a J &K minister’s house on a day when 20 persons were injured in clashes in the Valley and curfew was reimposed here and six other towns.

Sushil Kumar on Sunday created history by becoming the first Indian wrestler to win a gold medal at the World Championships in Moscow. Sushil was the second Indian to win an Olympic medal when he grabbed a bronze at Beijing Games in 2008. The Haryana grappler overcame Russia’s Gogaev Alan 3-1 in the final to clinch the gold.

Obama visit: Nirupama Rao flying to US for groundwork
New Delhi, September 12
Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao is leaving here for Washington next week to start the groundwork for US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in November, amid sharp differences between the two countries over a plethora of issues, especially outsourcing and visa fees. The visit will also provide her an opportunity to convey to her American interlocutors New Delhi’s position on the Civil Nuclear Liability Bill, which was recently passed by Parliament since Washington has conveyed certain reservations over it to New Delhi.

Flight withdrawal to hit veggie exports
Amritsar, September 12
Export of perishable goods from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to Europe would be hit hard if Air India sticks to its decision to withdraw the Amritsar-London-Toronto flight from next month, say export houses. The Air India website is already advising passengers, who are trying to book seats in October/November, to catch the Delhi-London-Toronto flight from there.
