Tribune News Service

Kolkata, August 27
Umakant Mahato, one of the prime suspects in the Gyaneshwari train sabotage, was today killed in an encounter that lasted over six hours at Lodhasuli village in West Midnapore district on Friday

Mahato was the leader of tribal body People’s Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA), which has been blamed for the Jhargam accident that left 148 persons dead in May this year.

“Umakant Mahato was killed sometime early morning today (Friday) following an encounter in a forest area of Jhargram,” Director General of Police (DGP) Bhupinder Singh said.
