Unhappy MPs get Rs 10k more

New Delhi, August 23
The Union Cabinet today decided to increase allowances of the MPs by another Rs 10,000 a month.

Meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, it decided to increase the office maintenance and constituency allowances of MPs by Rs 5,000 each per month, taking it to Rs 45,000 each. Both allowances are exempt from income tax.

Last week, the Cabinet had cleared a three-fold hike in salaries from Rs 16,000 a month to Rs 50,000. The next day, they all met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee who assured them to take appropriate steps and stuck to his word.
