PM calls for monitoring unit to check Leh relief fund
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday said a monitoring unit would be soon set up in Leh to oversee proper implementation of the relief measures announced for the flood-hit victims. Singh, who arrived in Leh on a daylong visit, okayed Rs 125-crore aid from PM's relief fund for rebuilding houses in Leh destroyed in the recent flash floods triggered by a major cloudburst.

Madani sent to police custody till August 26
PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani was on Tuesday night remanded to police custody till August 26 in connection with the 2008 Bangalore serial blast case. The court granted custody on conditions that he be allowed to perform all religious rituals during Ramzan and avail all medical facilities any time he so desires. Top police officials from Bangalore in Karnataka formally arrested Abdul Nasser Madani, in Kerala on Tuesday.

Australia to send large team to CW Games: Varghese
Peter Varghese, Australian High Commissioner to India stated that his country would be sending the largest ever contingent for the Commonwealth Games to be staged in New Delhi during October. He said this on the sidelines of a seminar to boost bilateral ties between India and Australia hosted by the Indian Council of World Affairs in national capital, New Delhi on Tuesday.

5 tested positive of swine flu in Aurangabad
Swine flu has again gripped India, as several people have shown symptoms of the flu in Aurangabad. Out of the affected, nineteen have been admitted to a government medical college and five have been tested positive. Gattani also said that six people have died in the last forty-eight hours but only two cases have been confirmed. He added that since April 15, ten people have died from swine flu and patients from Marathwada and surrounding districts of Vidarbha are being admitted to the hospital. He said that patients are under observation.
