18 students buried alive in U’khand

Nainital/Pitthoragarah, Aug 18
Eighteen students were buried alive when the roof of a school collapsed due to rain and landslides in the Sumbhgarh area of Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand here today.

According to the administration, there were 25 students and a teacher in the school when the tragedy struck.

The rescue teams and villagers were able to take out seven students alive from the debris of the school.

Four of the rescued students were later sent home while the others were admitted to a hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed grief at the demise of the children and sanctioned Rs 1 lakh each for the kin of the victims.
