Srinagar, August 14
One person was killed and nearly 80 others were injured during fresh clashes between protesters, the police and the CRPF at different places in Kashmir today. These clashes took place amid curfew restrictions that were imposed here and in other major towns across the Valley as preventive measures following the death of four persons and injuries to several others in the clashes yesterday.

The separatist APHC chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, had also called for a protest bandh today against the killing of four persons in yesterday’s clashes. Normal life has come to a halt in the wake of continued bandhs, curfew restrictions and clashes between protesters and the police.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired the Unified Headquarters Meeting here this evening, which had been postponed in view of the law and order situation yesterday. The meeting reviewed the situation prevailing in the Valley. It was attended by senior security officers, including Director-General of the CRPF, Vikram Srivastava.

One person, Ishtiaq Ahmad Latoo, was killed and many others injured when the police opened fire to quell the protesters who attacked the police personnel and their vehicles in the Lazbal locality of Anantnag in south Kashmir this evening. The police said the security forces after withdrawing came under heavy pelting of stones from a huge mob, who attacked the vehicles as well as the personnel. The forces tried their best to control the mob by using minimum force.
