Govt to fully support rescue operations in Leh: Chavan
After assessing the situation in the flood-ravaged Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan said that the central and state governments would extend their full support to speed up the relief and rescue operations. He chaired a high-level meeting on Sunday that was attended by officers of various defence units; paramilitary forces and other establishments engaged in the relief operations.

Food Security Bill to be enacted soon: Pranab
Bringing cheer and hope to millions of people living below poverty line (BPL), Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday assured that the government would enact the ambitious food security bill at the earliest. While speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of a seminar on 'Indian National Congress: Vision of Inclusive Growth and Evolution of Indian Economic Policy' at the Calcutta University in Kolkata, Pranab also said that the draft of the bill was presently in its final stages, and would be tabled in the parliament soon.

Nathpa Jhakri plant shut, disrupts power supply in North
Country's largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydropower project of SJVN remained shut for the sixth consecutive day as the silt level remained high. It affected power supply to many northern states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan among others. While the losses on account of the plant shutdown accrue to over some billions of rupees, officials maintain that the plant will resume operations in a couple of days.

Curfew re-imposed in Kashmir
Curfew was re-imposed in Srinagar on Monday after a day's relaxation of Sunday. Restrictions have also been imposed in Baramullah, Sopore, Anantnag and Pulwama areas, as there were reports of stone pelting and protests on Sunday. The toll in the ongoing cycle of violence in the Kashmir Valley rose to 50 with another youth succumbing to injuries sustained in firing by security forces, police said on Monday. The streets wore a deserted look, as shops remained closed and police personnel patrolled the streets.
