CVC directed to pay Rs 55K to whistleblower

New Delhi, August 5
The Delhi High Court has asked the Central Vigilance Commission to cough up Rs 55,000 for its failure to provide information on time to a whistleblower who exposed corruption in Indian Oil Corporation.

Justice S Muralidhar said the whistleblower, who had exposed corruption in IOC, had to suffer because he was denied promotion and the CVC had failed to provide him the report in which he was given a clean chit.

"It was indeed a valuable document for the petitioner. It vindicated him as a whistleblower and his stand that he was being unfairly denied promotion for being a whistleblower," the court said, adding that had he been supplied the documents, it would have helped him in getting timely promotion before retirement.

“Had he been given the communication dated March 31, 2005, from the CVC to the chairman, IOCL, it might have helped in expediting his case,” it said. — PTI
