BlackBerry makers’ no to data sharing
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 3
Some not so good news for the country’s over one million BlackBerry users: The smartphone’s maker, Research in Motion (RIM), today said that data being transmitted over the smartphones could not be made available to security agencies for monitoring.

“The BlackBerry security architecture for enterprise customers is purposefully designed to exclude the capability for RIM or any third party to read encrypted information under any circumstances,” the Canadian manufacturer, which operates in 175 countries, said in a statement. This, despite a government warning that RIM would have to either provide the technology to monitor content or face a ban on operations.

“Governments have a wide range of resources and methodologies to satisfy national security and law enforcement needs without compromising commercial security requirements,” RIM added, assuring its customers security and privacy.

Earlier reports had said that RIM had agreed to comply with demands of security agencies, as it was also facing similar problems in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
