Water level rises in Yamuna, Delhi forewarned
Yamunanagar/Chandigarh, July 31
Haryana government A submerged link road in Yamunanagar district. sounded a flood alert in four districts on Saturday and ‘forewarned’ Delhi about the rising water level in the Yamuna. Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat and Sonepat are the districts likely to be affected.

Strongly refuting allegations of financial irregularities in the Commonwealth Games, Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi today said there was total transparency in all deals and “every pie is accounted for”.

CPM plotting to kill me: Mamata
Kolkata, July 31
Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today alleged that CPM has hatched a conspiracy to eliminate her. “The CPM is unable to fight me politically. In the conspiracy, some CPM ministers are also involved,” Mamata alleged at a crowded press conference at her Kalighat residence. She claimed that CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee would be responsible for any attempt on her life. She said she would visit Lalghar on August 9 and meet the locals, despite resistance from the state government and its cadres

Advance income tax collection up by 27 pc in Q1

If the advance tax collections by the Income Tax Department in the first quarter of 2010-2011 are any indication of the way things are going to go during the remaining fiscal, economic planners can keep humming the Hollywood hit “All izz well” as revenues have increased by almost 27 per cent, with both corporate and individual taxes showing an upwardly swing.



Punjab eyes Borlaug Institute for S Asia

Punjab will enter the race to bag the prestigious Borlaug Institute for South Asia by flying in a team from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) to Ludhiana tomorrow and make a high-power pitch, led by Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.
