Delayed rains leave paddy farmers high and dry in Gujarat
Paddy farmers in Gujarat are eagerly waiting for rains as cultivation in the area has taken a backseat on account of poor rainfall. The farmers of Sanand city are complaining that the year has not seen enough rains to begin their cultivation and if the situation continues for the next ten to fifteen days, about 100,000 acres of land will be destroyed.

Passenger trains collide in WB, at least 50 dead
At least 50 people are feared dead and over 150 injured when Sealdah-bound Uttarbanga Express from New Coochbehar rammed into the rear of the Bhagalpur-Ranchi Vananchal Express at Sainthia station in Birbhum district on early Monday. Injured passengers were being taken to hospitals in Sainthia, and Suri, the district headquarter town.

Exact cause of the collision, after thorough probe: Indian Railways
After hours of disastrous accident between two trains in West Bengal today, Spokesperson of the Indian Railways Anil Saxena in New Delhi said that the exact cause of the collision would be known after a thorough probe into the incident. He also said that it would take some more time before all the trapped passengers were rescued.

Leaders criticize Mamata after train accident in WB
Knives were out after yet another train accident in West Bengal where a speeding passenger train rammed into a stationary train on Monday,killing at least 60 people.Politicians cutting across parties blamed Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for negligence of her ministry after the latest accident.Former Railway Minister and chief of Rashtriya Janata Dal Lalu Prasad Yadav demanded action against the guilty.

Contaminated water in Gujarat claims five lives
Five persons died and several others were hospitalised after consuming water from a well at Ghoda village in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Reportedly, people developed symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea after drinking water from a well in the village. The Health Department has sought the services of additional doctors and also allied facilities.

Four Babbar Khalsa terrorists held in Punjab
In a major success in the continuing crackdown on banned Sikh extremist group 'Babbar Khalsa International' (BKI), the police arrested four hardcore Sikh militants at Khanna in Ludhiana district of Punjab on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the district police nabbed Harminder Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Gurujant Singh and Manjinder Singh from the state.
