Floods, fuel hike make vegetable prices soar
People across the northern part of India are feeling the effects of incessant rains and floods. Heavy rains have damaged crops, resulting in high prices of vegetables. The gasoline price hike has also added to the increase in prices. As a result, transporters bringing in vegetables from other states have increased their fares, in turn pinching the pocket of the common man.

Omar discusses Kashmir issue with Chidambaram
The chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah called on the Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi today to discuss the situation in Kashmir. Abdullah said that the aim of the meeting was to discuss how the state's problems would be dealt with in the days ahead. On being questioned about the role of the army, he said that army has a specific role to perform.

Maoists ambush in Jharkhand kills five policemen, injures ten
Five police personnel were killed in an ambush that was laid by Maoists in Barwadih region of Jharkhand state on Friday. The vehicle was ferrying personnel of Jaguar Force, a crack outfit of Jharkhand Police when the Maoists triggered the landmine. The security squad was returning after busting a Maoist bunker in the jungles of Latehar district.
