Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra begins

Ahmedabad, July 13
Thousands of devotees joined the rathyatra of Lord Jagannath that began from the Jagganath temple in Jamalpur here amid tight security this morning.

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, as per tradition, symbolically cleaned the road outside the temple, from where the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balram and their sister Subhadra would pass.

Thousands of devotees joined the procession as it started its journey on the 14-km-long route that passed through some communally sensitive areas in old city. The yatra had devotees lined up alongside the chariots of Lord Jagannath, brother Balram and sister Subhadra. It would see participation of 18 decorated elephants, 98 decorated trucks apart from three big decorated raths of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balram and Subhadra, which would be pulled by 1,000 devotees. — PTI

Woman scribe molested by cops

Bhubaneswar: A woman journalist of a TV channel was allegedly molested and a cameraman covering the yatra at ISKCON temple here beaten up by two policemen, who were later arrested, police sources said.

“Two personnel of India Reserve Battalion have been arrested for outraging the modesty of the woman journalist and attacking the cameraman,” IG Tapan Mohanty said.

The incident took place when the deities at the ISKCON temple were being carried in a procession to the chariot for the annual car festival. When the cameraman protested against the alleged molestation of the woman scribe, he was beaten up by the two policemen. The two policemen were identified as Nrushingha Sahu and Manoranjan Behera. — PTI
