Tax hike necessary to reduce fiscal deficit: Pranab
Defending central government's decision to hike tax rates, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Kolkata on Friday opined that the move was aimed at reducing the widening fiscal deficit of the national economy. After formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pertaining to the beautification the Kolkata riverfront in cooperation with the Indian Railways Pranab noted that the distribution of money allocated for developmental activities by the central government to the states was not being properly utilized and channeled.

‘80% of medical expenditure in India spent on 20% people’
Minister of state for health and family welfare Dinesh Trivedi, at a medical technology conference in New Delhi on Friday said that India is spending eighty percent of its medical expenditure on only twenty percent of people. Trivedi also called for equal and fair treatment to people from different financial backgrounds. Trivedi further added that the country had to grow out of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to measure development and progress.

After initial calm, Curfew re-imposed in some areas of Kashmir
After Srinagar woke up to semblance of calm this morning, Curfew was reimposed in city's Maisuma locality along with Anantnag and Pulwama towns on Saturday after stone-pelting mobs clashed with security
forces, authorities said. Twenty people have been arrested for allegedly instigating
mobs. Restrictions were also eased in Northern Kashmir towns except
Sopore. In Southern Kashmir curfew was relaxed except in Kakapora in Pulwama
district. Curfew was relaxed on Friday evening in Kashmir, in view of Islamic festival of 'Shab-e-Miraj' that also allowed common people to purchase essential commodities.
