Sonia Gandhi to sue writer Javier Moro for defamation
India's ruling Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi has initiated proceedings to sue Spanish writer Javier Moro for defamation, a party spokesman said on Sunday. Abhishek Manu Singhvi said a legal notice has been sent to Moro for the book "El Sari Rojo" (The Red Sari), a dramatised "tale of the Nehru-Gandhi family told through the story of Gandhi". Singhvi said that despite repeated reminders, Moro has not substantiated any single fact on Sonia Gandhi that he has written in the book.

KPS Gill hints merging of IHF and Hockey India
KPS Gill, chief of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF), the apex body of hockey in India, on Sunday said that he was willing to accept the merger of rival body hockey India for the sake of sport in the country. He also said that he would not contest forthcoming election of the body if the guidelines of the central sports ministry came into being.

IPL foolproof from match fixing: Niranjan Shah
Rubbishing allegations of cricket players being highly susceptible to corruption, the Vice-President of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Niranjan Shah, on Sunday said that IPL was foolproof from match fixing. Shah's denial comes a day after former Australian skipper Adam Gilchrist revealed in an interview that IPL players regularly discussed the looming threat of "match fixing" in the game. Gilchrist had also claimed that players were 'easy targets' for match fixing in the IPL.

All 8 accused convicted in Bhopal gas tragedy case
26 years after the world's worst industrial disaster that had left over 15,000 people dead, a local court on Monday convicted all the eight accused including former Union Carbide chairman Keshub Mahindra in the Bhopal gas tragedy case. They were held guilty under Sections 304-A (causing death by negligence),304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder),336,337 and 338 (gross negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohan P Tiwari pronounced the verdict in a packed court room convicting 85-year-old Mahindra, and seven others in the case relating to leakage of deadly methyl isocyanate gas in the intervening of Dec 2 and 3 1984.

Prime Minister in Kashmir for two-day visit
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday arrived on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir where he is to address a convocation ceremony and announce a revival package for the saffron industry. The special plane carrying the prime minister, his wife Gursharan Kaur and other members of his delegation landed at Srinagar airport at 1 p.m. Jammu and Kashmir Governor Narinder Nath Vohra, state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister for New And Renewable Energy, Farooq Abdullah were present at the airport to receive him.
