Gujarat police arrest suspected Maoist
As India battles with the increasing naxal insurgency, the rebels are continuously expanding their hold in the country. Bedsides their strong hold in states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, west Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, the Maoists have now spread their clutches even to Gujarat. Gujarat Police arrested a suspected Maoist from the industrial city of Surat on Monday. The arrested rebel was staying in the Godasar area of Surat for the past eight years with his wife and son.

Impose President's Rule in Jharkhand: Cabinet
The Union Cabinet on Tuesday recommended to President Pratibha Patil to impose Central rule in Jharkhand after the resignation of Chief Minister Shibu Soren ahead of a trust vote in the Assembly. The Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, decided to recommend to the President to keep the state Assembly in suspended animation and impose Central rule.

First batch of devotees leave for Mount Kailash
The first batch of Hindu devotees left Indian capital New Delhi on Tuesday for the revered pilgrimage of Mount Kailash and the nearby Mansarovar Lake, which is believed to be the abode of Hindu god Lord Shiva. The first batch of pilgrims comprised of 50 devotees who gathered in Delhi shouting slogans in praise of Lord Shiva. The arrangements for the pilgrims have been improved this year, with more variety of food and extra accommodation facilities.
