Opposition continues to stress JPC probe into IPL scandal
After Governing Council meet of Indian Premier League (IPL) in Mumbai on Monday, opposition leaders reiterated their demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the alleged financial irregularities in the IPL, the multi-million-dollar cricket extravaganza. Sharad Yadav, President of Janata Dal (United) party said that even after days of arguments and disputes over the IPL issue, the situation has remained to be what it was earlier. Mulayam Singh Yadav, chief of Samajwadi Party termed the entire episode as fishy further stressing on the need of JPC probe.

Man exposed to Delhi radiation dies
A man, hospitalised after radiation exposure in New Delhi earlier this month, died of multiple-organ failure on Monday. Rajender, 35-year-old worker in Mayapuri scrap market, died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He was admitted to the hospital on April 13. Four other radiation exposure patients are still in AIIMS. Ten sources of Cobalt-60 had been discovered in the market.

Nationwide protest against price rise hits rail services
Workers of Samajwadi Party disrupted train services in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday as part of their to protest against rising prices. Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has called for a shutdown against rising prices on Tuesday across the state as part of a countrywide stir called by 13 left-led opposition parties. Main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is not a part of it. Train services have been severely disrupted in Uttar Pradesh. Ganga Gomti Express was stopped at Allahabad and at Ghaziabad in the state.

Normal life affected by opposition’s strike against price rise
Altogether 13 political parties, including the Samajwadi Party (SP), Left parties, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), have called for a nationwide strike on April 27 to oppose the hike in prices of petroleum, fertilizers and other essential commodities. The Countrywide shutdown paralysed normal life in various parts of the country. In Siliguri and Kolkata shops remained closed, people stayed indoors and vehicles were off the roads.

BJP targets PM for his statement over JPC
Leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj, while addressing the parliament today. lashed out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for making a statement outside the house on JPC probe on the phone tapping and IPL. The prime minister had on Monday night told reporters on the sidelines of the defence investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan that the phone tapping and IPL controversy were not fit cases to constitute a joint parliamentary committee (JPC).
