Rita Bahuguna slams Mayawati over Education Act row Rita Bahuguna Joshi, chief of Congress party for Uttar Pradesh, slammed state chief Mayawati on Sunday for seeking funds from the central government to implement the Right to Education (RTE) Act in the state. Orissa CM condemns Maoist attack, announces Rs 8 lakh ex-gratia Naveen Patnaik, chief minister of Orissa, on Sunday condemned the killing of nine personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG) in a Maoist attack when the rebels blew up the bus carrying them. The attack took place at Govindapalli village in Malkangiri district of the state earlier on Sunday. Patnaik also announced an ex-gratia of Rs8 lakh and an insurance sum of Rs10 lakh to the kin of security personnel killed. (56k)

Ten killed, nine injured in Pune road accident Ten people were killed and nine injured in an accident on the Pune Satara highway in Maharashtra on Monday. The accident occurred at around 4.30 am, when the tyre of a jeep suddenly burst, causing it to overturn. Another speeding vehicle hit the jeep from the back, which then hit the wall of a new tunnel in the highway, killing all ten passengers. The jeep was on its way to Mumbai from Satara. (56k)

A police team led by an assistant commissioner of police quizzed 28 year old Shoaib for close to two hours at the residence of tennis star 23 year old Sania Mirza, to whom he is scheduled to get married on April 15.
