Karnal, March 30
In a historic judgment, a sessions court here today pronounced death sentence for five men accused of kidnapping and killing a young couple in February, 2007. One more accused was sentenced to life imprisonment while the driver of the hired vehicle used in the abduction would have to serve seven years in prison.

In a shocking case of honour killing, a young girl, Prabhjot Kaur (19), and her paramour, Pardeep Singh (35), who had allegedly gone in for a court marriage against the wishes of their families, were shot dead by three assailants in broad daylight in front of Government Senior Secondary School in Patti township where Prabhjot had appeared in her plus two examination.

Somali pirates capture 100 Indian sailors
Ahmedabad/New Delhi, March 30
Around 100 Indian sailors have been captured and seven dhows seized by pirates off Somalia’s coast, a shipping association said today. “Around Saturday afternoon, we got information that seven of our vessels have been hijacked by Somalian pirates in the mid-sea,” Kutch Vahanvati Association (KVA) president Kasam Ali Bholim said.

Beant’s killing: Life term for Bheora

A special trial court today awarded life imprisonment to Paramjit Singh Bheora, chief of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), for his involvement in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh 14 years ago.

Census-2011 to start from tomorrow

The forthcoming Census-2011, starting April 1, will be a comprehensive database of citizens. The 15th Census since 1872, the exercise will not just collect and collate the numbers, enumerators will also collect finger prints and photographs besides information on mobile phones, computers and internet access.
