Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 29
The CBI has filed a chargesheet against former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala in a corruption case in the special CBI court in Karkardooma in New Delhi, the investigative agency said today.

The CBI said the the chargesheet was filed on March 26. The agency has accused Chautala of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of Rs. 6.09 crore, much in excess of his lawful income of Rs. 3.2 crore during the period between 1993 and 2006 when he came to own these assets.

“Besides, he has been found in possession of immovable and movable assets worth Rs. 7.4 crore in addition to the expenditure incurred by him of Rs. 1.9 crore during the period,” said a CBI spokesperson. He said the figures are conservative estimates as these are based on registered values and reports to calculate the acquisition cost.

The 75-year-old Chautala is a five-time chief minister and last held the post between July 1999 to March 2005. He currently represents Uchana Kalan constituency of Hissar district in Haryana Assembly.

Among the properties mentioned in the chargesheet by the CBI were six plots in Haryana and Delhi, a farm house, a penthouse, Rs 80 lakh cash and other assets worth Rs 2.5 crore.

The CBI had registered a case against Chautala, his family members, including his two sons, and others for allegedly amassing huge immovable and movable assets disproportionate to their known and lawful sources of income when he was the chief minister of Haryana between July 24, 1999 and March 5, 2005.
