Court ticks off Sajjan for delaying trial

New Delhi, March 20
A Delhi court today committed the trial of two anti-Sikh riot cases against Sajjan Kumar to a Special CBI court after refusing to consider an application filed by the Congress leader, which, as per the court, was seemingly done to delay the trial. Also, the court told Kumar to appear before the Special judge on March 27.

And today’s move by the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma has paved way for the beginning of trial against Sajjan Kumar for his alleged involvement in the crimes against Sikhs over 25 years ago.

Notably, Kumar had filed an application seeking certain documents related to the chargesheet filed against him in both cases.

Refusing to put his application on record, the court said: “I am not impressed with the arguments and contentions of the accused. It seems that the application has been filed to cause further hindrance in committing the case to the Sessions court… Under the garb of application, the accused is trying to set up his defence by placing his documents and records.”

Kumar’s advocate IU Khan submitted that the CBI had failed to supply the necessary documents for a fair decision of the court and asked the court to put its rejection of the application on record so that the accused could move a higher court. However, the court observed that it was not desirable in the interest of justice.
