A breakthrough eluded India and Pakistan at the Foreign Secretary-level talks with New Delhi rejecting Islamabad’s plea for the resumption of the composite dialogue process (CDP) and handing over three fresh dossiers to the neighbouring country linking elements in Pakistan, including JuD chief Hafiz Saeed, with terrorist activities on the Indian soil.

Little cheer, more worries
Job market strained, but not for women
New Delhi, February 25
Recession blues that clouded the Indian job market post-October 2008 seem to be vanishing now, with 1.51 lakh jobs added to the pool last year. Overall job scenario may not look so happy, but women’s employment, in both public and private sector, has been rising over the years. Males, on the other hand, have been losing jobs in public sector.

Govt accepts 13th finance panel suggestions
New Delhi, February 25
The Union government has accepted recommendations of the 13th Finance Commission, which has asked the Centre to cut its fiscal deficit to three per cent of the GDP by the end of fiscal year 2013-14 and eliminate its revenue deficit in 2014-15. Also, it has asked for greater share of states in central tax proceeds, despite strains on its finances.

Terming the 13th Finance Commission report as a “huge let-down”, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal today said all hopes of Punjab had been dashed even as he personally called on panel chairman Vijay L Kelkar for considering the state as a special case in view of the turmoil it had to face during militancy.

Indian artist MF Husain, who has been under attack from Hindu groups for his paintings of Hindu goddesses and has been living in Dubai and London, has been given Qatar nationality, it was reported here today.

Getting drugs easier in jail!
Tarn Taran, February 25
“It’s easier to procure drugs inside a jail than outside,” said 23-year-old Balkar Singh (name changed), a drug addict from Amritsar. Balkar was held with drugs and had to spend over four months in the Central Jail, Amritsar.
