Revival of terrorism in Punjab is a possibility, following latest secret reports of the Intelligence Wing of the Punjab police.

According to the reports, terrorist groups could target religious and historical shrines , besides some busy public places. The terrorist outfits, including Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), have placed several VVIPs on their hit list.

A secret intelligence communication to the Punjab police informed, “Pakistan-based ISI has been pressurising various Sikh terrorist outfits- Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), Panjward Group, All International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF), Rodey, that are operational outside Pakistan, to carry out terrorist action in India.”

The communication (a copy of which is with The Tribune), said senior Pak-based NKI cadres, including BKI chief Wadhawa Singh, in December 2009, had assured all help to the outfit for carrying out terrorist action in India. Security agencies stated, “To execute the task, Wadhawa Singh is making efforts to mobilise volunteers from Punjab, as also from the US, who could be made to travel to India via Malaysia or Singapore. Apart from this, KZF chief Ranjit Singh alias Neeta and Germany-based Resham Singh Babbar have warned Parkash Singh Badal against his anti-Sikh policies or face consequences.”

The intelligence wing has asked the Punjab police to take appropriate security measures to protect VIPs, besides beefing up security cover around defence and other important installations across the state.

However, Jalandhar IGP Sanjiv Kalra claimed, “We take all such information very seriously. Security is being beefed up as required,” he claimed. Recently, huge explosives were found near Nabha town in Patiala district. Two grenades were found five days later outside an IAF establishment in Zirakpur. Explosives in a car were found last month outside the IAF station in Ludhiana. The KLF has owned the responsibility for attempting to cause explosions near Bottling Plant in Nabha and Halwara Airport.

Intelligence agencies in a communication (a copy of which is available with The Tribune) to the Punjab police said the KLF has asked all deras and activists that all anti-panthic elements would be liquidated. The e-mail, however, clarified that the organisation does not believe in unnecessary bloodshed.
