Fulfil Majithia’s mission, exhorts Dr Bambah
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, February 2
Rich tributes were paid to the founder of The Tribune, Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, on the occasion of the 129th anniversary of the newspaper here today.

Dr RP Bambah, a Trustee of The Tribune Trust; HK Dua, Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune Group of Newspapers; and Sanjay Hazari, General Manager of the group, led hundreds of employees in paying floral tributes to the great visionary, who founded the newspaper at Lahore in 1881.

Addressing the employees at an impressive function on The Tribune premises in Sector 29 here, Dr Bambah exhorted the staff to renew their commitment to society to fulfil the founder's mission.

Quoting from “About Ourselves”, the first editorial of the newspaper written by Majithia, Dr Bambah said: “The aim of The Tribune will be, as its name imports fairly and temperately, to advocate the cause of the masses. In its columns, we shall seek to represent the public opinion of India.”

“As the mouthpiece of the people, The Tribune will be conducted on broad and catholic principles. We shall not be identified with any particular race, class or creed, nor seek to give prominence to the views of any particular party. But the paper, as the champion of the people, will not scruple to speak plainly against class interests, nor shrink from boldly assailing them whenever they should happen to clash with the welfare of the masses. In religious matter, we should maintain a strictly neutral position,” Dr Bambah said, quoting the editorial.

Saying that the newspaper had moved with the times in the technological field, the Trustee called upon the staff to strive harder to serve society in a better way.

Among those present at the occasion were Varinder Walia and Naresh Kaushal, editors of the Punjabi Tribune and Dainik Tribune, respectively.
