No anticipatory bail for Rathore
Panchkula, January 8
Spelling fresh trouble for former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, a sessions court here today denied him anticipatory bail in connection with the two fresh FIRs (levelling serious criminal charges) registered against him in the Ruchika molestation case. The applications of Sewa Singh, one of the co-accused, were also dismissed.

Fog throws air, road traffic out of gear
New Delhi, January 8
Fog engulfed North India today affecting air, train and road traffic severely, as visibility fell as low as 50 meters in Delhi which experienced the lowest maximum temperature in the last five years. All the cities in the region recorded low temperatures with Amritsar recording the lowest temperature at -0.2 degree Celsius.

Security forces killed two Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants involved in shootouts and an IED blast in Srinagar in an encounter in the Khrew area of Awantipora district today.



Hockey players revolt, boycott training camp
Chandigarh, January 8
Apparent provocation for national hockey probables - core group for the 2010 World Cup Hockey Tournament - to stay away from the training till their demands are met may only be a cover-up for severe infighting among those assigned the task of building up a world champion team. Players boycotted the training at the Pune coaching camp today to demand acceptance of their financial demands.
