Ludhiana, December 7
While the peripheral areas of Ludhiana observed a complete bandh following a call given by panthic organisations, curfew disrupted the normal life in the city for yet another day.

There was, however, no incident of violence from any area but the uncomfortable silence prevailed on deserted roads. No relaxation was given in any area till evening after which the curfew was relaxed for three hours in Model Town, Sarabha Nagar and the Division number 5 areas between 5 pm and 8 pm.

A near-total bandh was observed in Sahnewal, Doraha, Khanna, Jagraon, Mullanpur Dakha and Mandi Ahmedgarh.

People suffered for the third consecutive day as they had to remain indoors. Educational institutions remained closed and examination in colleges and schools were postponed. However, public offices remained opened.

DC Vikas Garg said the situation was under control. All schools, colleges and educational institutions will open tomorrow and curfew will be relaxed in all city parts from 8 am to 5 pm, he said.

Meanwhile, Varunjit Singh, in charge of the Dhandari police post, has been sent to police lines for laxity in duty, while an inquiry has been marked against Pardeep Sandhu, SHO Focal Point, following the incident in which an irate mob vandalised a police station and torched 23 vehicles.
