JB Patnaik is Assam Governor
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, November 21
Former Orissa chief minister JB Patnaik has been appointed the new Governor of Assam, as per a Rashtrapati Bhawan communiqué issued here today. Patnaik replaces Syed Sibtey Razi

Noted educationist from Maharashtra, DY Patil, has been appointed the Governor of Tripura. Its present Governor, Kamla Beniwal, has been shifted to Gujarat, which was being governed simultaneously by Maharashtra Governor SC Jamir.

Syed Sibtey Razi, who was earlier the Governor of Jharkhand and was shifted out to Assam only a couple of months ago amidst controversies, had become a liability for the ruling Congress since he was being charged by the Opposition with propping up former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, currently under the CBI scanner for allegedly committing a mining scam running into crores.

The President had appointed Devendra Nath Dwivedi as the Governor of Gujarat in July this year but Dwivedi expired before assuming office after which Jamir was given temporary simultaneous charge of Gujarat as well.
