He said the party workers were not demoralised as they were after the Lok Sabha debacle in May this year. BJP party legislators, led by former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, had raised a banner of revolt against General Khanduri leading to his removal.

Asked about the absence of party legislators at his meeting throughout the state, Khanduri replied that he himself was surprised. About his decisions being reverted by the present government, General Khanduri pleaded ignorance, stating that he would look into the matter.

On his own assembly segment Dhumakot getting merged into another in the new delimitation and announcement of Chief Minister RS Nishank to contest from the Srinagar Garhwal assembly segment in the next assembly polls, he retorted that his segment remained in Uttarakhand only.

According to BJP sources, the whirlwind tour of the former Chief Minister is seen as an outcome of an intense internal struggle of supremacy between him and Nishank, as both of them represent the Garhwal region.

Haridwar, November 6
Allegations over Maha Kumbh-related works and projects seem to be coming from all quarters with former president of the state unit of the Samajwadi Party Ambrish Kumar too casting doubts over the quality and pace of the Kumbh projects being carried out in mela area.

Terming Kumbh works as unsatisfactory, Ambrish said the mela administration was not able to carry out works and projects on time as well as maintain their quality.

Terming the present Kumbh preparations as slow in comparison to previous ones, he raised concern over a successful hosting of the mega fair, which is renowned worldwide.

“Crores of people will be visiting here during the Kumbh and it’s our duty and responsibility to see that the fair gets successfully completed,” said Ambrish.

He said despite Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank during his two visits to Haridwar coming down heavily on officials of all departments associated with the Kumbh works, yet there was not much change in their working.

“Hundreds of crores are being spent on these works and yet it’s no hidden fact that how much is being spent in reality,” remarked Ambrish, casting doubts on the misuse of funds.

To bring people’s and state government’s attention to the issue, Ambrish and his supporters will be staging a demonstration on November 12 in the city and will demand a clarification from the mela administration.

On the sugarcane issue, Ambrish said farmers were quite angry with both the central and state governments. “Farmers are perturbed by the central government’s FRP rule while the state government has still not fixed sugarcane rates, which is quite baffling,” said Ambrish.

Meanwhile, on political front, still Ambrish is undecided over joining any political party.

Swamiji sheds light on Vedas
Tribune News Service

Dehradun, November 6
Swami Padmanabhanandaji Maharaj, general secretary of the Divine Life Society, delivered a talk on the role of spirituality in making society more value oriented at the ONGC auditorium here today. The talk, organised by ONGC’s Vigilance Department, was part of the Vigilance Awareness Week.

Swamiji said society was made up of individuals and everyone was searching for happiness, even animals and plants wanted to be happy. He gave the mantra of happiness, saying that knowingly one should not disturb the happiness of others. “We should not deprive others of their happiness to make oneself happy. From here, start the first lessons from Vedas. People generally think that Vedas speak about spirituality and gods. It is not exactly like that,” he said.

In fact, Vedas speak about human aspiration and how to become happy. The next stage is that of sacrificing your happiness to make others happy. In the process, you acquire more happiness than what you had earlier, he added. The talk was followed by a short interactive session in which Swamiji answered the questions posed by the audience.
