New Delhi, October 26
A pilot vehicle of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan, which has a radio tag allowing its entry into Parliament, was stolen from the residence of his driver in the R K Puram area of south Delhi this morning. According to police sources, the Mahindra Bolero SUV was stolen from driver Niranjan Mohanty's house in Sector-5 of R.K. Puram around 5.15 am. The radio tag of the car has been deactivated, said the police.

According to information, Mohanty took the car home after he was relieved from duty late last night. “He had parked the car close to his house and claims to have heard someone starting the engine. When he came to check the vehicle, he raised an alarm when he saw that the car was being driven away,” said a police official. Mohanty gave the car thief a chase on his motorbike, but lost him after some distance in the Vasant Kunj area and thereafter gave a call to the police control room. A case has been lodged at R K Puram Police Station and investigation taken up.

Although police stations were alerted about the vehicle theft and massive search launched at the exit points of the Capital, the police had failed to retrieve the vehicle till late evening.
