Akram’s wife dies in Chennai hospital

Chennai, October 25
Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram’s wife Huma, who was suffering from a “mysterious” fever, died of cardiac arrest at a hospital here today.

Huma (42), who breathed her last at Apollo Hospitals, is survived by Akram and two sons.

“We regret to inform that Mrs Akram died at 9.20 am. She died of cardiac arrest because of refractory severe shock,” Ramesh Venkatraman, consultant, Intensive Care Unit, told reporters.

Huma was hospitalised here on October 20 after her condition became critical when an air ambulance flying her to Singapore from Lahore halted at the city airport for scheduled refuelling.

She was put on ventilator support after multiple organ failure and her condition had remained critical since her admission.

Akram’s family declined to meet the waiting mediapersons.

Police sources said Huma’s body was likely to be flown to Lahore by a special aircraft today. — PTI
