Lucknow, October 10
A brilliant cricketing career of a national-level player Gagandeep came to a tragic end in Meerut on Friday night when an enraged son of a cop opened fire at a kebab shop, demanding to be served first. The victim was a member of the Indian under-19 cricket squad.

The kebab shop owner, Shahnawaz (55) also succumbed to bullet injuries.

The main accused Rahul Sirohi, son of Head Constable Sharda Sirohi, has been arrested. His two accomplices-Ankit Sharma and Ajay -are still at large. A .32 bore pistol has been recovered from Rahul, said IG Meerut, Javed Akhtar.

The incident occurred in the Lal Kurti locality at around 11.30 pm last night when Gagandeep and two more cricketers arrived at the kebab shop of Shahnawaz.

Rahul and his friends entered into a brawl with Shahnawaz, demanding to be served first. Without provocation, the accused pulled out a pistol and opened fire hitting Gagandeep, Shahnawaz and another person nearby. The three were rushed to a hospital where the cricketer was declared as brought dead. Shahnawaz was discharged after first aid but had to be readmitted after profuse bleeding from his abdomen. He succumbed to his injuries early this morning, said IG Akhtar.
